While driving to New Orleans’ 3 Ring Circus (3RC), I missed my turn onto Clio Street. A New Orleans priest, who gave me bergamot tea and cinnamon cake prior to viewing the film, told me to take South Claiborne, but I took St. Charles instead. Having prostrated myself at the altar of MapQuest.com®, not even a papist could change my mind. And so, I missed my turn. Sigh. I had to circle around Lee Circle and finally made it to the 3RC.

I’m going to substitute this sentence for the Rolling Stonesque description of the 3RC that I aspired to write, because now, the thrill is gone. Suffice it to say that the 3RC is way cool, and the people are even better.

The first feature film made with sock puppets was being shown at the 3RC. My job: to see the film and tell you very little about it – how post-modern of me. This sock puppet film noir was written and produced by Baton Rouge native Lynn Lamousin. According to me, it was more than chuckle-funny.

I’ll tell you the long and short of the beginning of the story. (You will have to see it yourself to get the rest.) A gumshoe (detective) by the name of Terrence Cotton is pegged by some fancy broad to find her husband. The broad is Heelda Brum. Turns out, Brum is in on her husband’s disappearance and death. (He’s a sock, so he’s unraveled…ha-ha…genius).

I like this movie, because it introduced me to the bold world of sock witticisms and hosiery puns. You can purchase the film at www.sockholm.com or www.amazon.com, and I think you should. I give it 3½ has out of a possible 5.
